Running Word on Windows XP but for some reason I can't open Word. It starts to open but then says something happened unexpectedly and then offers to send a report to Microsoft. Tried opening Word docs from Explorer but same thing. Tried repairing Word using the installation CD but no luck. So then uninstalled and reinstalled Word from the disc but still the same problem.

Beats me - any ideas?

- Remove Office (again) and manually remove any references to Office in the registry and file system

- Service Pack it (XP sp1).

And pray it works!

Yes - I just tried it (why didn't I think of trying that). I'm set up as the Administrator so why can everyone else open Windows but not me? Bizarre!

probably a corrupt default template, these are user specific. found in c:documents and settingsusernameapplication dataMicrosoft templates

copy one from a working users folder to your own.
edited to add that the posting code has removed the slashes from the path, not me being a shtoopid

It amazes me a times the amount of "collective" information that is available on PH.
