I was due to have a telephone interview this morning, for a contract job in a bank. Suitably qualified through experience, but seems as I don't have a degree, I won't be able to get a work permit, even if it is only for 6 months.
Anyone else had this problem?!
Cheers.

AFAIK you need a degree for certain types of visa - i.e. skilled professions.

I have a degree, but my company couldn't be bothered with the attestations/paperwork - so am here as a 'mechanic' wink

Hello mate,
Hmmm, so there could be a way around it then?!

There's always a way round anything here, just depends how many connections the organisation has and how much they want you.

Unofficially that is wink

I don't have a degree, but I do have a journalistic qualification (I work as a journalist). If you have any kind of qualification vaguely related to what you're doing, that should suffice.

You could also get round it on maybe a Mission Visa, works out more and need to pop out the country every 3 months. I'm no expert though, my Admin guy is off at the moment or I'd ask.

Sounds like, as you say, there's always a way round it....just how much to they want me. It's with their HR at the mp, so just a waiting game now I guess.
Cheers.

I went from General Manager at my first company (at DMC - Free Zone) to an Administrator even though I was the Regional VP. Currently down as the Marketing Manger and I'm the Director.

Well, nothing on the net I can find says anything about a degree, only a sponsorship from an employer. That would suggest it's a bank requirement not a state one.

As I think Mattt said there are certain professions that need a degree qualification, but these are few and far between nowadays. Although having a degree does aid the visa application process there are always ways around this and was said above if the bank want you they will be able to get a visa no worries at all.

Also as others have said I have variously been descibed as engineer, manager (v vague), tecnition (sic) of which none describe me accurately.

Well, the interview is going ahead on Thursday....05:00! So I guess the lack of a degree issue has been resolved. Just hope the call goes well.
