I have to say this is typical for Dubai! Me and Mrs John were really looking forward to the station at Emirates Golf club being open so we could jump on the feeder bus to MOE to save taking the motor and also for nights on the pop, looks like another 6 month wait for that to happen though.

Agreed - Dubai does seem to be the centre of the universe for soft launches. Nothing is ever done properly and yet they sing and dance about being in the same league as 'other megacities' - it's almost delusional.

I think it's the thing that annoys me most about Dubai. If they were honest and said that "we're doing our best, we know there's a long way to go but hang in there, let's work together and create something amazing..." it would manage expectations far better and everyone would have far more patience - as it is, Dubai is still millions of years behind many international cities but trying to pretend it is - I guess it's an ego issue.

Happen to be somewhat involved in this project.

The soft launch is due to it opening about 18 months before anyone said it would be safe/possible/cost effective/sensible to do so. 090909 is a number now etched on my weary soul and the fact that it is running at all is quite frankly an amazing achievement from an industry precident point of view.

On a personal note I'm secretly chuffed to see my feeder bus network mentioned in the hallowed halls of PH. Never thought I'd see that happen!

So the people who know what they're doing said it must take another 18 months but they insisted that it be completed earlier?

So apart from no stations open etc... what has been missed, what safety aspects have been let to slide to get it on time.

I have to say that if there have been any safety/sensible short cuts then I can't respect the companies that agreed to do it. Not ethical.

Easy tiger. Everything is safe, and appropriatly signed off and tested as so using UK standards which are as tight as can be following Hatfield.

The impact is that the concentration of effort and resources to hit the Metro launch date of 090909 means that the availability of the full red line, and any of the green line will be considerably delayed.

This isn't a huge secret either, I'm told it is even reported in Gulf News today.
