Hi Guys,

I've recently got a 97' SL500. Its in excellent condition, however it seems to have a "clunk" from the suspension when going over bumps.

The car has a new MOT and has been checked by a local garage, neither of which reported any faults with the suspension. However it just doesn't sound right to me. The car has done 120K miles so I was wondering if there are any comments faults in a car with this mileage I should be checking?

cheers

Front ARB bushes
Front wishbone bushes
Topmount

All fairly cheap to sort. The ARB bushes are under £20 at MB, the topmounts are about £30 for a pair (pattern) and the complete wishbones (pair inc new bushes already fitted) can be ordered from German ebay for about £120.

Cheers Bri

Front anti-roll bar bushes would be my bet. These cars eat them: mine are replaced every other service. Eventually the roll bar itself wears thin at the mounting points.

Also check the engine mounts.
