TT map updates

I've been notied by TT that my map update is ready to be downloaded, looks like its a whole new map,about 1600mb.
Do I need to remove the old map from the TT before loading the new one?
Can't understand why it doesn't just update the existing map

you dont need to remove the old one, BUT you will lose all of your favourites ,home location etc. The way it works is your tom tom is completely erased then the new map is loaded thereby losing all your settings.

So do the following:

1. Backup your tomtom in case it all goes horribly wrong
2. Install the update
3. Do a search of your PC files and find the file that stores your favourites, home location etc (cant remember the file name but google is your friend), it will have been copied over during the backup
4. Copy the file over the blank one that now exists on your tomtom
5. Remove tomtom from PC dock, start it up then hit the reset button underneath

That should be it.
