with tonights EuroMillions draw at £85M, about 50% of our factory have gone into one big syndicate and got lucky dips for the draw

if they win, then come Monday morning we wouldn't be able to continue the business without some extreme restructuring
is there such a thing as a lottery insurance, where you can cover the company in case loads of employees have a big win ?

(too late for tonight, i know. But there will always be more chances for the win !)

Yes, there is insurance that you can get. Believe it or not it's quite common!

There is, it costs a pound a week.

See the head of the syndicate for more details.

You say that.
But someone does. Pretty much every week.

Approximate chances of winning the lottery - 13m to one.

Approximate chances of being dead within 24 hours due to accident - 1m to one.

If you don't have insurance which to cover the staff cost due to them dying in an accident, then you don't need it for the lottery.

And the chances of the entire workforce dying in an accident all at once?

That has as much logic as 'I'll spend it because I might get run over by a bus tomorrow'. It doesn't make sense because it ignores simple statistics - which everybody should learn at school IMHO!.

Well, let's just presume we're not talking about submariners.

Well obviously, the odds would be vastly different whether you are talking about a team of three gas fitters or an office of 300 accountants.

But, still such a long shot that it is not worth insuring for as you as the MD are more likely to die than the whole office.

You have more chance being murdered this week than winning the lottery jackpot.

True.

If your employees had a regular syndicate could you not just subtly find out what numbers the syndicate play (if they play the same every week) and play the exact same numbers. Then if you win, assuming that you are both the only jackpot winners, you'll get half the prize and they might not be able to afford to retire, as you'll have got half the jackpot!
