Yippeeee....picked the Cerb up on Saturday having had the new clutch fitted. Wow, the new one is much much lighter (but not as light as my wallet of course)! Should make it much more comfortable to drive in traffic.

Getting mine back tomorrow with a new clutch. I'll let you know if it's the same outcome!

Grahame/Dave,

No problem, I'll resend the video clip. I don't have it at work, it's on my PC at home, so I'll send it tonight. Dave, can you let me know your email address?

Hi Russ,

Unfortunately we didn't make it to the meeting on Sunday either. Will hopefully get to the Feb meet, and fingers crossed we might even join the Suffolk raid this coming Sunday.

See you soon,

Neil

I hear so much about clutch's going i am a bit paranoid now. Are there any early tell tale signs which give advance warning that a new one might be needed?

Mine struggled getting into reverse when I was parking it up on a sunday night, after a run out. I just thought it was me. The following weekend, started the car, but couldn't get it in gear. So, not much warning.

When did the factory start fitting the new lighter clutches. My car is a 98 and I have a left leg like a Russian shot putter or thrower.

Strangely, I was ranting about this on an earlier thread "Rain...Rain, Go Away".

In terms of the clutch itself, it gets heavier and heavier as it wears out (I'm on my 3rd one now (through no fault of my own, I hasten to add!)). Also, if the clutch fluid starts to leak out (e.g. from a slave cylinder or a leaking pipe) you get this horrid, weird feeling that you have to mash the clutch pedal in to the floor in order to change gear and then it becomes more and more difficult to change gear until you're lurching along in 1st gear and hoping to God you don't come to a red light on an uphill stretch of road. To get back to the original thread, a new clutch, slave cylinder and general gearbox-related overhaul puts the smile back on your face.

had the clutch replaced on mine about a month ago. Had to have the upgrade, flywheel, Slave cylinder etc. Yes the final bill did hurt but i intend to keep this car for at least another two years. With the relatively low mileage i do this clutch should last until i sell the car. Im more than happy to have two years with a nice light clutch than spend that time fighting the old one which was a nightmare! and then replace it just before i sell the car.
