Anyone tried this - sure I can recall hearing somewhere that the 997 linkage is a straight swap (in a 3.4 996 C2) and improves the shift.

I'm keen to improve the quality of the shift, not necessarily the speed as not keen on short shifters. Are there any non-OEM kits that do this?

I've done it in my GT3...makes a really positive difference.

One of the advantages over an OE short shift is the price...997 shift is about £100

Excellent, thanks - so is that a 997 GT3 linkage kit in a 996 GT3 or is the part common across GT3 and Carreras?

Ok, done some searching and appears it is a common part with the advantage that the 997 unit has been made with more metal, less plastic.

Thanks for putting me on to this, looks like a worthwhile upgrade.

did this in an '03 turbo. Went from std to B&M (which was short but v notchy) then to the 997 which was still a long throw, very slightly less than std (10%?) but far smoother than both and well worth it.

May want to double check but that's what is on my old invoice. £118.89 inc.

yes, really quite simple. New unit comes with a centralising clip that makes initial set up pretty foolproof. Use the B&M guide (from their site) to work out how to get the console out, the rest is very straight forward.

Chris, make sure it comes with the green plastic alignment part...mine didn't when I ordered it from the OPC, yet a friend's did...don;t even attempt the install until you have it, as it keeps the shift cables in alignment so you can still find the gears!

10 years late to the party again but thanks for the info guys. Perfect lockdown job.

Further reading on the same topic here:
http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=125311

But basically additional info is:

997 GT3 up to 2010 is circa 15% shorter throw than the 996 - This comes with plastic bushes.

997 GT3 2010 onwards is same 15% shorter throw but has metal bushes and costs circa twice as much.

Part number is: 997.424.010.91, £272.98 inc VAT (with club discount)

997 Short shift is circa 40% shorter, but to be avoided, it's stiffer and more notchy and as such takes longer to change gear.

Digging through memory I had the 15% metal bearing shift post fitted to my 2000 turbo and it was memorably a great mod, only slightly notchy and stiff on cold starts but superb during normal driving.

Now going to fit the same to my C2 and will report.
