My usually bullet-proof 1982 W123 280E is playing up. She starts with no problems and about 10 mins into a journey, the engine will cut out at low revs, e.g., when stopped at lights in gear.

After a few minutes, the engine will turnover again, but will struggle when at idle, and cut out when Drive is selected unless you keep down hard on the accelerator.

Has anyone any ideas?

No air mass sensor on one of these unfortunately (or fortunately).

OP - not sure about the 280 model, but the 230/200 models should have had a screw atop the engine which adjusted idle speed. It was near to the cam cover. Of course the 280 is probably very different because it's a twin cam for starters and I'm not even sure it has K Jetronic, but still worth a look for one, it was just a black phillips screw on my old 190.
