I'd definitely include: Sutton Bank->Helmsley-> Hutton le Hole->Castleton.

You'll probably go over that last section a few times wink. When you get bored of that, head north to that Great International Race Track commonly known as..... Scotland! biggrin.

You'll probably be alright this time of year, but I've aways found the classic roads across the Moors (A169 I think) had a lot of potential, but was let down by scores of caravans and slow traffic.

There are, however, a plethora of stunning roads around the edge of the Moor. I let my girlfriend - a native of those parts - do the navigating, so I don't know exact road names, but starting from the Haxby (just north of York) we always cut across country and I've not found a bad road yet. Glancing at the map, I seem to remember Kirby Grindalythe to Wold Newton (out towards the coast) had its moments. There's a route we take north to the Moors that has some very good bits too, but I can't remember it - I do remember The Howardian Hills having some cracking roads.

Sorry, not a huge amount of use there. getmecoat

ETA You probably know this already, but if you're in Lincolnshire, there are some great roads heading up to the Humber bridge. I drove across from a relative's house in Skeggy to go and look at a car in Hull a while back and I was really jealous of how much better the everyday A-to-B roads are for you lot oop north. It's not fair!

Raf - North Yorkshire is my play ground. Where are you coming from?

As Chris said - if your coming from Shorpe direction, then you can put together a nice route heading out over the bridge, then up the east coast, right to the top of the NYM then cut back inland westwards before heading South towards York/Leeds/Harrogate.

I was planning on doing a bit of an early morning hoon on Sunday anyway. I might be heading off over the Pennines towards Cumbria with a group from the Yorkshire forum - I'm sure you'd be welcome. If I dotn get out with that lot, I'd be happy to meet with you somewhere maybe, or at least draw you up a map with some pointers.

What car will you be in - the 205 in your profile?

Alas the 205 has gone, hopefully picking up my Puma tomorrow so will be good to take it out for a blast.

Aye, I will be coming over the bridge, I've driven up past Whitby in the past and back down by Fylingdales, a cracking road but I was learning to drive a HGV at the time so not a great deal of fun!

Thanks for the kind offer of meeting up but as I shall have my GF with me I'm sure the best laid plans will no doubt end in disaster!
