Is it me or is this just wrong?

Manual BMW 550i with expensive options - over £60k new
Wrong colour/wheel/interior combo.

Why not by an M5?
This has to have a very very small target audience

I know the history of that car.
It was a showcase car for the BMW Individual options for a BMW dealer in the west of Scotland (i worked for a BMW dealer in the East of Scotland at the time)
The cars were specced by BMW UK and not by the dealer so it was pot-luck what you got.
I would bet the car was unsold and auctioned as why the car is now in Surrey with less than 3000 miles on it.

but 30 large for a 550i Manual is just wrong
A 4.8L V8 rwd saloon with only 2k miles on it and a host of extras, show me a car of similar stature for less (and I don't class a 4-pot diesel A6 as being of similar stature, as that's what £30k will buy you in the same class).I like it, it's only a colour, it's not as if it's pink or lime green.
Having just consulted t'intraweb, it'll do 60 in around 5 secs and keep going until 155mph, so you can have a 550i in a unique colour or a Vauxhall VXR8 for the same cash, I'll have the German engineered uber barge please!

What would i have?? hmmm err... ill have a 545 please! we have one at work on an 04 with 40k on it that will be going soon. £9000 i hear you say... ok done!
It's hardly a like for like comparison, a car that's 4 years older (no warranty) with 38k more miles, less bhp and less torque, and I'd wager an inferior spec in terms of gadgets/toys/extras, you'd expect it to retail for a lot less (not that it's not a good buy at £9k).My comment was based on it being value for money at £30k, its up for sale for around half of it's original price and it's almost factory fresh.

Surely if BMW were sending a car to a dealer they wouldn't go to the trouble of registering it and would leave all that to the dealer? Your Y prefix theory probably mainly applies to cars used by non-dealer BMW employees and press cars.
I was under the impression a car registered by the dealer (In this case on S plates) would have been purchased and specified by themselves. If it was purchased and specced by BMW, then I would guess BMW would have registered it themselves and gone onto a Y-plate.
