Manual BMW 550i with expensive options - over £60k new

Wrong colour/wheel/interior combo.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/08-BMW-550-550i-SPORT-SE-IND...

Why not by an M5?

This has to have a very very small target audience

They have been trying to sell that for ages, the link has been posted here before once or twice. Its a horrible spec, and really goes to show the importance of getting the colour etc right to be able to sell a car on easily.

I know the history of that car.

It was a showcase car for the BMW Individual options for a BMW dealer in the west of Scotland (i worked for a BMW dealer in the East of Scotland at the time)

The cars were specced by BMW UK and not by the dealer so it was pot-luck what you got. frown

I would bet the car was unsold and auctioned as why the car is now in Surrey with less than 3000 miles on it.

How much would a respray cost? They could charge extra if it was black (probably).

I actually really like the interior, shame the exterior looks like vomit, but as said it shouldn't cost a fortune to respray?

A 4.8L V8 rwd saloon with only 2k miles on it and a host of extras, show me a car of similar stature for less (and I don't class a 4-pot diesel A6 as being of similar stature, as that's what £30k will buy you in the same class).

I like it, it's only a colour, it's not as if it's pink or lime green.

Having just consulted t'intraweb, it'll do 60 in around 5 secs and keep going until 155mph, so you can have a 550i in a unique colour or a Vauxhall VXR8 for the same cash, I'll have the German engineered uber barge please!

Wants something more comfort orientated, I suppose? The manual gearbox is the real mystery to me.

Or maybe they don't want the 'M' servicing costs...

Good point - but you'd surely just buy an Alpina?

Going by the Scottish numberplate it must have been ordered by the dealer, as a BMW-UK car would be on a Y-prefix.

I don't really mind the colour, and the interior is a lot less garish than a lot of E39 M5's...

Blue leather and wood... Mmmmm.

I think I may have been the only one to read this tidbit in only the second reply to the original post.

It's hardly a like for like comparison, a car that's 4 years older (no warranty) with 38k more miles, less bhp and less torque, and I'd wager an inferior spec in terms of gadgets/toys/extras, you'd expect it to retail for a lot less (not that it's not a good buy at £9k).

My comment was based on it being value for money at £30k, its up for sale for around half of it's original price and it's almost factory fresh.

Surely if BMW were sending a car to a dealer they wouldn't go to the trouble of registering it and would leave all that to the dealer? Your Y prefix theory probably mainly applies to cars used by non-dealer BMW employees and press cars.

I'm going to stand up and say I think it's cool. Why does the Manual gearbox confuse people? Automatics are the spawn of satan as far as i'm concerned!

I was under the impression a car registered by the dealer (In this case on S plates) would have been purchased and specified by themselves.

If it was purchased and specced by BMW, then I would guess BMW would have registered it themselves and gone onto a Y-plate.

I don't see why not to be honest. e39 540 manuals sell very well nowadays, as do e34's.
