Folks,

The tandem pump has just gone pop on my CL55AMG Komp, meaning the ABC and PAS are disabled and the car is undriveable.

The no-dealer specialist has had a look and it says it's about 769+VAT for a pump. Anyone out there know where I might be able to pick one up cheaper than than? Annoyingly I didn't realise but I'm about a month out of warranty :-(

Tried the usual suspects but the pumps appear to be as rare as rocking horse poo.

I'm not sure a cheap one will be at all easy to find. I doubt the part is common enough to result in a refurb or copy and I'm not sure I'd want to pay out for a secondhand one plus fitting since old ones are somewhat prone to failure!

Had mine replaced by the dealer last year and it would have been around the price you quoted if the warranty hadn't paid up. If I hadn't had such a good workshop manager I would have been rather out of pocket since this part is (apparently) not normally covered by the warranty.

Hi Steve,

Managed to pick up a new (merc) one from the States as I'm going there shortly; a bankrupcy sale which is lucky for me but not for the poor sod who lost their business :-(

$695 all in

Looks like they don't do refurb ones at all and certainly wouldn't consider a second hand one - spent literally thousands getting it up to scratch would blow it now :-)

Hello there I had my tandem pump replaced at autoclass Milton Keynes a couple of months ago. The pump fitted was about £1200 iirc, which was £500 less than
mercedes. My SL55 would still run fine but there was a knocking from inside the pump, the abc, ride height and power steering pump worked fine (car just sounded like a diesel).

What was scary was the fact that the previous owner had the same pump replaced 10 months earlier!

The problem with the tandem pump in my case after various researching was a membrane inside that had perished. I now have two broken tandem pumps at my disposal (thanks auto class) which with the aid of my intelligent father will take apart diagnose and see if a cheaper fix would have been available, rather than replacing the whole component!

The only issue I forsee is that who would risk buying a reconditioned unit when the job takes 5 1/2 hours to complete!

I had a pump go on my Ml500 sport current shape, it was the same money , what i did though was complain to mercedes germany after trying my local dealer ( gearbox also failed 7G though) , in the end they replaced it free of charge as i had FMBSH , am preparing myself for my CL55Komp to experience similar problems !!But hat off to Mercs for accepting rsponsibility outside manufac warranty
