This.
If anything, Friends is a prime example of a show that "quit while it was ahead". The viewing numbers were still up and showed no sign of decline after the very little dip in season 6-7.
They could have easily stretched it a few more years, but I'm glad they didn't.

While you are technically correct, you are also very wrong biggrin

Yeah it went downhill but it was still watched and enjoyed by many.
If someone feels it's gone on too long then they can stop watching and be happy with all they've seen so far.
Friends on a bad day was still funnier than many many shows out there.
On a similar note, just saw an advert for series 2 of Noel Fielding's Luxury 'Comedy' show.
They could do an episode of Friends where they all sit in a sewer reading a dulux chart and it'd be funnier than 'Luxury Comedy'
Friends went on for so long it got st and then went back to being funny. I don't know if they changed writers much. As a whole it is very flabby and rereuns the same stories. I enjoyed the last series, it felt like things were back on track. But it waddled through a tonne of flab to get there. biggrin
TBBT may hit some high notes again. M*A*S*H did, Friends did.

Are they high notes or just the occasional spike emerging from the sea of dross?

As the quality drops, so do your expectations so what you now see as "funny" wouldn't have even registered in an earlier series.

It's just hard to watch when you have a hope not an expectation of it being entertaining.

Am I alone in thinking Friends was just an endless sea of banality?

The Characters never changed, it ended 9 years after it started and they were exactly the same - the only reason signs they'd done anything was baggage from poorly thought out plot devices -.

At least with TTBT the characters have evolved like really people would

I have to agree with this point.

It is great to watch the characters develop and evolve, especially their relationships between others on the show. TBBT does this well, HIMYM threw everything away in the finale but Modern Family does very well too.

For me, TBBT and Modern Family are the best Yankcoms, piss over everything else. I did love 30 Rock, but lost track of it now.

Here's something that just crossed my mind....and will probably bomb.

If a UK version on TBBT was made, who would you have play the main characters?
To make it easier, you can choose any actor from any time in the past 30 years.

I was thinking that Chris Barry from early Red Dwarf years could be a good Sheldon.

5 of the main players in the show are not contracted in for the new series yet.
Much like the show Friends, they're hanging out for maaaaaassive pay rises.

Really? That'll be a shock to people not reading this thread, on the other hand, for those who do....

(Why do people post without reading first?)

Completely different type of character - but Jon Richardson for Sheldon?

I was thinking Leonard or Howard but that could work.

I don't skip the very page you'd be posting on to.

I would venture it was past its best in any case.
