C220CDI transmission problems

Hi guys

I own a W203 C220Cdi sport coupe with 50k miles on the clock and an auto gearbox.

When I tap the gear lever to change manually nothing happens and I end up having to tap or hit the lever several time before anything happens. What could be the cause of this problem?

Secondly whilst driving along the car feels lumpy almost like it would with a rough idle. The engine speed appears to fluctuating by a couple of hundred rpm even if I keep my foot steady or use cruise control

Any advice would be greatly recieved!
