I need to get to Heathrow by about 6pm on Saturday afternoon - any idea how long it's likely to take from the M1? What's the roadwork situation along there?

You don't say what time, but the M25 between jc 17-16 often grinds to a halt anti-clockwise around lunchtime (even without roadworks). Otherwise it should be ok.

You can always come off at jcs 18/17 and take the A412 to Uxbridge, and then the A408 in to Heathrow (for T1-3!).

This would be Saturday afternoon - still grind to a halt on Saturday would you think? Does it clear up later?

You should be fine on the weekend, although the M25 won't be much fun. Shoulnd't take any longer than 30 mins from the M1-M25 junction.

Thanks, hopefully no worse than normal then - I was worried the roadworks might cause big holdups.

Yep - Sat lunch is always bad, but soon clears up and there's no reason there should be a holdup after that.

Be aware that the contraflow has recently been reversed. The anticlockwise section now crosses over and queues form at the start as people bugger about figuring out which lane they want to be in.

Whereabouts is that? Is it going to affect finding the LHR turn-off?

Nope, runs from just past Chorleywood to just before the M40 at the viaduct and the roadworks finish entirely at the M40 turnoff. The usual form is for lane 3 to queue to get into the contraflow while 1 and 2 run fairly freely. 1 & 2 then fur up (junctions and joining traffic trying to filter into 2 lanes) and 3 runs OK in the roadworks unless someone breaks down or has a smash.
