For the first time since I bought the 390 (just coming up to 5 years) I have had some electrical gremlins with the driving lights.

Sometimes one would work, sometimes the other, or none, or both. Depended on which way the wind was blowing.

Decided that seems both lights were tatty to say the least, I bought two shiny new ones from RT Racing. Arrived today and this evening replaced them (OMG, how can one light rust so much?).

To the topic in question then, looking at the wiring, there is a connector behind the lights (common place for driving light faults as I'm sure many of you know...), then the positive goes into the light, and the negative is connected to one of the mounting bolts underneath the light. Inside the light, you have previously mentioned positive coming into the light and conncting directly to the back of the lamp. There is then another negative, going from the back of the lamp to a terminal within the light casing!

I have rewired it so from the connector behind the light, two cables go into the light and connect to the lamp. Simple, and it works.

Why didn't TVR do it like this in the first place. They would have eliminated two possible corrosion based faults!

Sorry for rambling, hope it made sense

Rich.

Quite probably because the lights came wired like that (intended for metal bodied vehicles) and it was cheaper to leave it than to rewire it - Streaky

Possibly, but the replacement lights (same as original) came wired with two going to the back of the lamp.

Later change of design by the light manufacturer?
