Gatso - What is the new thing on the grey pole?

Over the last few weeks, every Gatso site in my area has had a new pole spring up. It's grey and a similar height, with what appears to be a spot light on top. Oddly, these are pointing in random directions at each site, which makes me think they haven't gone live with whatever purpose they are for.

Anyone know what they are for?

I wouldn't be surprised if they've decided they need a cctv camera to protect the gatso.

Plus a cctv camera to protect the cctv camera that protects the gatso.

And so on.

I thought it might be a CCTV camera, but the lens on it is much more like a light, or perhaps a flash.

I doubt it's good news though.

Noticed exactly this today on the Gatso when driving through Borehamwood (the Gatsos in Potters Bar don't have them (yet)).

It looked like a CCTV camera pointed at the road, sited on a grey pole about a metre or so infront of the GATSO.

Some kind of new camera that means it is possible to take 'forward facing' photos? I hope not!!!

Nothing like that.

The flash explanation seems sensible, though they are a fair distance from he camera - you'd think they be on top of it or something!
