Looks like Im going to be buying a 'replica/homage/rip off' then....god help me.

44mm dia and 16mm depth seems too much of a chance to take given the Pams i've tried on previously.

/holds head in shame and hopes the copy is about the same depth as the original

Sounds like you need to try a Marina Militare, I bought one for the same reason, I wore mine today, Great watch for the money.

only problem although the Pam is better, higher quality, I still like the MM.

Well,

I've been looking for a PAM089 for about 18 months now, I'm now 99% of the way there in terms of having enough ££££ so recently I went to an AD and tried on an 088.

To be honest the 088 left me a tad 'cold'....nice watch, no doubt about that, but I didn't want to buy it on the spot despite spending about an hour trying it on/taking it off and trying it on again.

I think the main problem is that I have wide/skinny wrists. The 44mm isn't an issue (see my victorinox beater in the wrist check thread) but the Victorinox is about 10mm thick where as a pam088 is about 17mm thick. Looking from the side the PAMS look out of proportion to the thickness of my wrist.

Does that make sense?

In light of the above (and the rarity of the watch I'm after) I'm inclined to buy an homage/fake simply to see of the proportions of the watch are suitable. I don't intend to wear it.

They do 40mm watches as well, don't they? (not a Panaristi myself so genuine q!)

Indeed they do....but I've totally discounted a 40mm wide Panerai, as they seem too 'small'

(call me picky) but I really want a PAM with skeleton hands, and a 40mm watch that is circa 16mm thick would look stupid on anybodys wrist imo
