Hi, I'm toying with buying myself a Sinn 556 or 656 watch early next year, I love the simple, elegant style. However, my wrists are fairly chunky at 7.8", will a 38.5mm case watch look too small? I'm currently wearing a 40mm Poljot aviator, which I think looks about right on my wrist. However I also have an old 36mm Oris which looks tiny now...

Not sure whereabouts in the world you are, but if you find yourself in Central London, then head down to Jura's in Burlington Garden and try one on.

I have had 2 Sinn 556's over time and if I am totally honest they were a little bit too small for me. I have a 7.5in approx wrist and I'm used to 40mm+ Omegas and the like. I am now sporting a 42mm Aqua Terra which I absolutley love and would not go less then 40mm now, but each person is different.

I have a friend who wears a Breitling Blackbird one day and then a Speedbird III the next day and it isn't an issue for him.

Since most of my watches now are massive diving things because I dive to 1000m all the time smile whenever I put my little sinn on it feels odd.

Wear it for a few days though and I get used to it and the reverse is true when I switch to somethng massive.

When I first got the 556, it did look a bit small as I had got used to 43mm+ divers and G-shocks. The 556 has its place, though.

I'd say it would feel too small, but go try one out if you can.

Love the design too, but I sold my 656 pretty quickly having gotten used to larger watches & my wrists are smaller than yours.

My 856 is a small watch, but I love it and the size grew on me pretty quickly. No pun intended.

As others have said, try one on. If you can't get to London, buy one from Neil at Chronomaster and he'll let you have it on approval - if it doesn't fit, send it back.

For a watch as nice as a 556, I would attempt to grow smaller wrists.

Thanks for the advice! I have a suspicion that it will be too small, I'll need to pay a visit to Jura next time I'm down in that London, I guess. I know that Chronomaster will allow me to try the watch, but I wouldn't want to do that unles I was 90% sure that I would keep it, and I'm about 50% sure at the moment.

If you're planning to go to the PistonHeads show in January I'll be there. I'll have the Sinn on I'm sure - you're welcome to try it on.

You've clearly stolen the wrists from an 11 year old girl for that shot. I've never seen a Stowa look so big! wink

hehe

You could get hold of a cheapo 38mm watch and see if you can get used to it for a while. It took me a while to get used to larger watches.

The Sinn 657 is looking tempting now - 40mm case. It loses a little of the elegant simplicity of the other models, but the rotating bezel could come in handy for timing cooking etc...
Thanks for the offer to try on the watch, but my January is looking crazy-busy already.
