I live in a cul de sac with a steep hilly bit right at the end of my drive which is like a fking ice rink at the moment. I'm currently playing a game of, spot the accident which is about to happen. So far I've seen 1 tt in a corsa barrel down and completely destroy the guy at the bottom of the hills wall, and I've just seen some tt in a citroen C2 barrel down the hill and wipe out the brand new BMW 3 series parked just round the corner at the bottom of the hill. Why are people such thick wkers when it comes to these stty conditions. I'm going to ignore the next inevitable crash because I'm already witness 1 on 2 insurance claims.

vid camera + youtube

At worst, you'll get some great vids, at best, you'll catch a drive off.

Yeah set up a camera. I wish i'd done that when i stayed with my folks - they lived near the top of a hill where it sorted of climbed, levelled out, climbed, levelled out and climbed again. Was really funny watching lot's of people getting stuck cos they just can't drive to the condtions.

They're still speeding with pedestrians about/using phones/no seat belts/vacuously doing anything but concentrating on driving in Essex. Too busy being "beautiful people" in their Rangeys and other bling wagons.

Round my way (South Essex) they really don't understand the principle of 4x4's. It appears they believe that having 4 wheel drive allows you to proceed at normal speeds on ice covered roads whilst using phone, talking to other people in car, pointing at things out of windows etc.

So far since snow came down and then froze I have:

1. Watched countless cars go past my house too fast and bump up kerb at next left hand corner as can't steer round it
2. Given up counting number of times cars don't stop on approach to a roundabout and slide across it with no control whatsoever
3. Seen most local BMW X5's with 20" rims and low profile tyres stuck half on/off their owners drives
4. Watched most of our local Nigerian occupnats believe that bootfuls of power in their RR Sports will get them anywhere - it does, just currently into a hedge, up a kerb or into someone's garden yikes
5. Not directly linked to 4 above (but could be) the road sign round the corner from me is now in a house garden with evidence on the kerb of a braking overshoot (T junction) and the contents of a sump on the pavement

Bottom line to me is that if you can't drive in these conditions then don't go out - YOU ARE A MENACE

TBH I havent been out other than on foot today, even though I am fairly sure i'd be able to cope. The big reason is "you" can be as careful as you like, watch the road ahead, prepare for problem situations etc, but with the loons out there who arent thinking that way it would be easy to have your P&J thumped by some idiot not taking the conditions into account.

Today's pet hate is the oxes driving around with 4 inches of frozen snow on their roof that lauches itself at the car behind as soon as they go over 50 banghead

It takes a broom and two minutes of your life to sweep it off. It's not rocket science.

I really don't get this complaint, I clear all my windows but never bother with the roof. Surely if you're following from a safe distance regarding the conditinons anything flying off the roof of the car in front will just go on the road. Anyone care to explain to me why they find it frustrating ? getmecoat

Yes quite happily- snow and ice on your roof flies a considerable distance off the back of your car at speed, and not necessarily in a straight line. I was hit more than once on the M11 this afternoon by idiots not clearing their cars of snow before driving off.

And what about when you are going in the opposite direction? Huge clumps of snow and ice thumping on to your windscreen because someone has not bothered to think that it might just affect someone else? I speak from experience here so don't tell me it cannot happen. And don't forget when they brake sharply because they cannot drive for toffee and the (now melted at the bottom because their car is warm) snow slides down on to their windscreen and blocks their view, seen this too. Particularly amusing of course when their windscreen wipers cannot move due to the weight.

Yeah.

Even the police are getting it wrong though.

Last night my GF was coming home from work at about 9pm.

Anyone who lives around High Wycombe/Loudwater might know of Treadaway Hill. Anyway, she was driving down it at about 10 mph and doing a good job of keeping on the road when a police car came flying down, passed her by crossing the solid white line down the middle of the road. At the bottom of the hill is a mini roundabout with the options of a left or a right turn.

The police car/driver decided to take the straight on option at the round about which involved a verge and a fence.

SLOW DOWN OUT THERE

It must be an Essex thing as it's exactly the same in Brentwood! Countless people on the phone whilst driving far too fast for the conditions.

We do. It is now empty. Next few days will be interesting for any 2WD trying to get out of the estate (the X5s just manage it spinning all 4 wheels).
