I'm looking to buy an SLK55 and wondered whether I should only consider cars with Command? What does this do? One article I read said it is excellent if voice activated - is this a separate option? Is the Satnav worth having - or would I be better off getting a Tomtom plumbed in as I have in my XKR? Thanks.

You don't say what year the SLK is and that will make a difference to the Command version. I have a 2003 CLK55 AMG and wouldn't buy a merc without it. 5 digit post code location and then the rest by map or street address. Shortest distance to destination or fastest. No waypoints can be added though.

Thanks - I'm after a 2005 model so I guess that would use the same system as yours? Is yours voice activated?

Hi

comand is SAT NAV, Phone, Radio, CD all in one unit with probably a multichanger or ipod interface as well. The Linguatronic (option) is ok I have it on my C32 and is good for voice dialling.

Compared to a Tom Tom the comand is a far second as it cannot be extended other than buying the latest DVD and generally what you get is just road updates for which you are charged a fortune. The Tom Tom however has traffic alerts, speed camera database and an ability to load your own POI files.

SLK55 options first and foremost are heated seats, airscarf and wind deflector everything else is just adding weight. If you find two one with comand one without go for the comand but it won't change your life. If you go for comand then a phone prep one is better than not as you can get loads of cradles and bluetooth for it but a retrofit is seriously expensive.

Thanks - so is phone prep only available with Command? The phone may be more useful than the satnav as it is easy enough to hardwire a Tomtom and I guess the standard phone system would be pretty good? (as it would need to be with that engine and the roof down...) I tried fitting a phone to my TVR which was ridiculous laugh

Notax - I have recently bought a 2005 SLK 55 and must say the only disappointing thing about the whole package is the SATNAV. Personally, I'm going to use the Tomtom as the one with the car is hopeless in comparison. Rest of the car is awesome though!

Glad you like the rest of the car! Does your satnav have Command - or wouldn't that make any difference anyway?

My wife has a CLS 320 [06 plate] with the command and it doesn't have the full post code search .
we use the tom tom as it is much better. I still would have the command though.

regards

Tim.

Yes it does have comand, all the other bits of which are very good. It's only the Satnav part which is pretty rubbish.
