Hi Chaps - my Mum's CLK is supposedly 150bhp and should give well over 40mpg. However, on a long run to Edinburgh and back the other week, the display was showing 33mpg. Also, I drove my sister's 136bhp Mondeo TDCi and it felt much quicker than the clk and was returning 48mpg on a trip to Bristol from Dorset.

Are there any common problems with the MB which might account for this? It was serviced just over a year ago by MB Oxford...says it's due another one in about 2000 miles time. Currently showing 84,000 miles.

Cheers all,

J.

dont trust the display in either car maybe calibrate the mpg yourself ?

pump the tyres up - this can add 4/6 mpg to my car if low in cold weather/ pressure etc ?

head on wind ?

auto box on the merc and passengers ?

I often get 35mpg on a motorway run if I'm doing 80/85 and have all the heaters and aircon on etc with c220cdi
