There's certainly council estates and the like between Chessington Road and Hook Road, but I've never felt a need to go into them, nor have I ever felt the effects of anyone coming out of them.

I've lived in Epsom/Ewell for the past 9 years or so, and not once have I had anything even remotely approaching any sort of trouble.

Having said that, we're in our late 30s and have small kids, so we're not out partying in the Chicago Rock Café on a Saturday night, so I can't really comment on the chavvery that may come out of the woodwork then.

It's certainly nicer in that respect than where we lived in Woking beforehand.

been reading this very interesting topic. I currently live in Blackheath in London, but want to move closer to Horsham (expecting a baby so want to be nearer wife's family). Still need to commute to city every day. Looking for a villagy feel rather than suburbia. I looked at Guildford - its ok, but seemed very busy. Godalming was nice but currently seems to be experiencing a bubble - its about 500 for 3 beds... So was looking around Redhill, thinking maybe I could bike into Redhill from a nice village? Anybody do this? Have any recommendations - anybody know what Nuthill is like?

Tonker, birds parents live on the mount in Fetcham. Where is the pikey camp next to the cemetary? Leatherhead develops a pikey infestation every sunny weekend evening.

Leatherhead has alot of nice places! just stay away from Cleave road area
Yes there is pikeys in the area but to be honest as far as pikeys go, ive never once had grief off them, unlike other near by
sites like Epsom and Woodmansterne (spelling?)

East Grinstead is a nice area, not the most to do in the town but not too far from South London (55mins train to London Bridge/Victoria)and plenty of nice countryside around. We looked at houses there recently and you'll get an average 3 bed semi there for £250k, not a lot more though. Takes me 40mins to drive from East Grinstead to Croydon daily and can do most of it on country roads!

I must admit I live in South Croydon/Sanderstead which is actually quite nice (I await the comments), easy to get into Central London and easy to get into the country. I very rarely head into Central Croydon as yes, it is chav city but there's a hell of a lot of facilities/shops if you do need anything and can nip in and out without getting mugged. To be honest you would be lucky to get anything over a 2 bed flat for £250k in the "nice" bits of Croydon though.

Have lived in Redhill and comments above are right, the nearer you get to Reigate the better.
