Wales/Scotland in a 'normal' car?
Discussion
Hey Guys,
I plan to head to wales/scotland later in the year and do a bit of Driving.. My daily driver at the minute isn't anything special (2.0 Diesel Toyota Auris 130bhp).. Whats the roads in wales etc like to drive in a car that's fairly 'dull'?
I'd consider buying another car £2000~, take it over to the mainland for a few weeks.. and then sell it again. Something like a Almera GTi or Civic vti?
Has anyone done the roads in a fairly 'normal' car? Would you advise me to strongly consider finding something a little more fun?

Great roads are great roads whatever you drive them in.
Some of my best drives have been in tiny hire cars, which as we all know are amongst the very highest performance vehicles

A very well known magazine road tester once told me his best ever drive was in a Citroen Saxo hire car on a coastal road in Greece. I was slightly dissapointed at the lack of heroic Ferrari or Aston Martin-based tales!
Obviously a great car is an experience in itself and will only add to the occasion, but I agree that getting out there and driving is the most important bit. Plus, if you're just passing through on a long road trip you won't know the roads, so the car's ability to sustain gratuitous 'oppo' is probably not that relevant.

Now you HAVE to tell me where that view is! As we know Scotland can have stty weather, But... That shot would be just as good with tumultious clouds bearing over the mountains.
Great pic.

Where are the pics of the nutter in the old Volvo 240 Estate getting the arse out on the Mid Wales roads?
Edit: Found it and its not an estate. Top effort though!
Just get out there and enjoy it. A lot of the quietest roads are narrow B roads so power and speed arent the most important factor.
