Why do people put "M" badges on non-M cars?

I give you... The BMW M3(20d) Convertible. This car is actually very local to me and I see it quite often. Picture appears quite old so not up to date with the mod list, nor taken by me. A number of sins being commited here. At least he spaced the plate correctly.
1. Full M3 conversion on a lowly 320d. With the quad exhausts. Check
2. All around tinted windows. Check
3. Horrible alloys. Check
4. Lowered. Check
5. Colour accenting trim around the car. Check
6. DRLs and Fogs always on. Check.
7. Silly red sidelights/DRLs like this. Check

For the cost of all those mods he could have bought a real M3. Is there anybody (apart from him, I presume) who doesn't think he is a tit for doing this?

Probably all the "sick whip bruv" crew who think it is a real one. I remember seeing another "M3" a while back, this time a white one. That time he was only trying to get away with rear bumper and exhaust setup. Perhaps believable to those who don't know about cars, but smoke only came out of 1 of the tailpipes. And reg showed up as a 320d. Surprise surprise. The Southall area appears to be quite popular for replica cars. Mostly BMW M3 and M5, but I've seen (and "heared".. or rather, haven't) a few Ferrari 360s.For the cost of all those mods he could have bought a real M3. There is also a chappy here with a matte black R34 "GTR" here. Skylines are a bit more tricky since most show up as GTS/GTR when you check, but it has the GTT front fascia, lack of flared arches and doesn't sound quite like an RB26. Almost the same engines but still. A nice car regardless, but he's done all matter of stancing and slamming (always thought slam sounds like a gay porno) to it. All around tints, smoked lights, obligatory blue xenons (always on), etc etc. Really does qualify for badly modified threads.

I have ten M emblems and badges on the outside of my new car, 10! All put there by the factory, after owning 3 real M cars it's slightly embarrassing.
2 x front wings
4 x wheels
4 x brake calipers
I'm in a similar position: four M cars owned. Current car is M-Sport, but has M logos on wheels, sills, steering wheel. The current range is much worse though with lots of external M logos. The last time BMW pulled this stupid stunt was in the 90s. It's just not good enough.2 x front wings

Cheers Lee, at least we can't say it doesn't have any torque! Here's a cracker from the PH classifieds, although I'm not sure it it belongs here on the the modded cars thread

I'm guessing there's a whole lot of fibreglass there? The kits I've seen are bloody awful and you'd need to be a magician with filler and resin, to ever get it looking halfway decent. Those wheels don't exactly lend themselves to the illusion either and there's no way that m42 is making 200bhp! They only make that with a supercharger! http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/b...
That said, it's not the worst I've seen and so long as they're not trying to pass it off as real, where's the harm? I'd rather just have a stock car with the tech2 kit though.
