Why do people put "M" badges on non-M cars?

Can't help it. I'm going to say it: this is a horrible, sneering thread full of wkerish statements of snobbery.
There, that's better.
Really? I read it as just comments wondering at the phenomenon of putting M badges on cars that don't warrant it? It's so commonplace now that Halfrauds even sell their own. I don't see that questioning that makes one a snob. ?? There, that's better.

So they do! http://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-styling/badge...Two of my M cars are debadged, I prefer not having the ///M badge because there are so many non M cars them stuck on all over the place.
I don't really object to people putting ///M badges on their cars, but I do think people who put M3, M5 etc badges on non M cars must just be a bit sad.

My factory standard 2003 530i Sport has a total of 9 ///M badges dotted around the car. BMW messed up their badging a bit there IMO.
I spotted the same model/colour as mine the other day in my village with a ///M badge on it's front grille. Looked especially naff compared to those on the rear of dreamers.

Spotted this one in Oxfordshire. I'm sat behind in a debadged M135i, looking forward to the dual carriageway in about a miles time.
I hope you have a note you can show the other driver as you gently pull along side (at whatever speed)..."THIS is an ///M"
and then you drop a cog (or two) and disappear over the horizon

Waiting for the ferry just now I spotted this rather fetching 530d SE complete with M5 bumper, sooty quad pipes, an M5 badge and an M5 plate. Utterly cringeworthy. What an absolute bellend.
There is a similar one kicking around the north west. I was tempted to lean out the car and inform them that there was something wrong with their M5 as it was spewing black smoke everytime he changed gear - however, he was to quick to get away, guess he didn't want to chat to a fellow M5 driver about :-(BobSaunders said:
