As per the thread title I am looking to buy a automatic watch in the £100-£150 price range and would like to see some of your ideas.

Oh dear I've just found the Seiko Monster threads.
It looks like I'll be joining the ranks of people swayed by PHsmile

The SKX007 / 009 (and other derivatives, they have yellow and orange faces too), are better and more attractive watches in my opinion. The olny Monsters thatd turn my eye are the PVD coated black or purple faced 'Night Monsters'. The stainless models are far 'to metal' for my liking, with too small a face.

If you get the above pictured 007 (or a Persi-dialled blue-faced 009) with a Super Oyster bracelet, rather than the lumpy Jubilee pictured, then itll be nicer still.

I had an Orange Monster but ended up selling it for an SKX011J (orange face), I've since got an 007J as well. They both look good on an Oyster bracelet.

Not my pic but these are the watches I'm on about.

Also this pic of an 007 shows how nice it can look.

More info here and here.

The SKX007 is becoming the MX5 of the watch section. biggrin It is a good timepiece, though.

If you want something a bit left-field, check out http://www.wernersflyingwatches.com/ or go on Ebay and look up "Parnis".

If, for some reason, you don't want a Seiko Diver, you could get yourself a nice Swiss automatic..

Nah, too many people dislike them. Deep down, every PHer loves the MX5. biggrin

Thanks for the replies, I am really torn between the Monster and SKX007J(on a Super Oyster Bracelet), what if I up the budget to £250? Anything worthwhile spending the extra cash on?
thanks

How so - don't they use the same movement as the Monster?

Or should I wait for somebody to post up the whoosh parrot?

Definitely the Seiko on the Super Oyster II bracelet. I love mine (I have the the black and the "Pepsi" ones) and think they are probably the best value out there.

If you're looking for alternatives, perhaps consider a decent Rotary, or does your budget stretch to a Christopher Ward?

They do yes, although there are different grades of 7S26. Its a subjective opinion of course, but I think that the 007/009 (and similar derivatives) is a better looking and more functional working watch, made to work: not look different. Monsters are made in China with a Malaysian movement too, whereas proper dives are still made in Japan (as well as Malaysia).
