You know the bar that is at the bottom of the window glass that the two lugs engage into? One side of
mine has rusted away and disappeared into the bottom of the door.

Any ideas on equivalents on other cars, e.g. SDi?

Can i interject with similar problem?
Yoda...(Andy390) My passenger window is loose inside the door!! I moved the window to the closed position and the window runner/guide raised out of the door(with window) like an aerial. What am i going to find when i remove the door trim? (S2 350i)

ooops! i assume you mean the rear window channel?
the window channel is really just a bit of u shaped bent metal with a rubber/flock insert. Its attached to the door innards with simple brackets with nuts and bolts. you'll probably find one of the brackets has become detached, anyone with simple metalwork skills and a small mig welder will be able to repair!
have got a section in my TVR Parts manual that deals with getting the window out,i could photocopy, but it doesnt show the channels very well?

I would just glue it in with some epoxy, after all you're only trying to prevent it moving up and down.

Andy - it just occurred to me that the SD1 is a 4-door
(I'm not used to this strange concept after 10+ years
of tivving!) so are all the window support bars the same or should I only go after the front doors?
