I'm sure there is loads of info on this via Google and I'm also sure it'll split opinion at every mouse click.

Good luck! smile

I've spent most of my day at work looking for answers but the majority of topics i come across are over 2 years old.

Just do your reasearch as best you can, the newer pump bio CAN in some cases dissolve o rings and other rubber components in the fuel system of older vehicles.

hi, would really not recommend bio or the whole vegoil thing. i am a patrol for a very large breakdown company and have seen a few breakdowns with people using this. especially in the cold weather. the vegoil gets really thick in the tank and sometimes soldifys. it also depends on the type / make of fuel injection pump you have. i believe the german mde bosch pumps are more resiliant to wear when it comes to veg oil.
Bio diesel on the other hand, the type that is put through a machine and all the esters are taken out and very well filtered- in my own experience i tried it from a company called rainbow fuels at canvey, essex. put in my 98 range rover dse. just to give it a try, the car had less power ( even less than before)and blocked the the fuel filter fairly quickly.
for the price of it per litre last time i saw it was 91p ltr, its not worth the agro of killing your car just to save a few pence.
please do not put neat cooking oil in the tank, as shown on top gear etc. ect it will cost you a hell of lot to fix it afterwards.
do your homework on it

good luck

Well I've decided to stick to the expensive stuff at the pump, I couldn't find an accurate enough answer and like you say its not worth risking ruining a perfectly good truck

I run the 300Tdi 110 Defender on 100% BioDiesel. It's made from recyccled chip fat and costs between 90p and 94p per litre. Thankfully it now has an additive so I don't need to mix 50/50 with regular diesel due to cold temps.

I get better MPG, pay 5% VAT, it smells far better & I also feel the Def runs smoother, too.

I used bio diesel for a while.
It was cheap, andthe car ran OK.
The trouble was it blocked fuel filters fairly quickly.
In the end I decided that the cost of the fuel filters was so close to the saving in fuel price that it was not worth it.

It's not the bio blocking the fuel filters, per se'...it's the fact that there's all sorts of crud in your tank and lines from the years of diesel which actually get semi dissolved by the bio, which then ends up in your fuel filter. Once you've been thru a few tanks of bio, change the fuel filter and check your rubber fuel lines (it can weaken old lines) and your away laughing, with no more blockages, too.

I have done about 2000 miles now on a 70/30 diesel/ veg oil mix.

It does seem to block the filter up, I went through 2 in the space of 1 tabnk but since then it has all been ok. There is gunk in the tank and lines apparently and something in the veg oil dislodges this. I keep a spare filter on me anyway but I wouldn't worry at all about running it personally.

Mine is smoother with veg oil in, has no smoke or any other issues, even in the very cold it would still happily start without waiting for the glow plugs.

Mine is a 200tdi Defender.
