First of all sorry for this being a double post, I started a similar thread about this in the main forum earlier this week.

As part of my final year University dissertation, I am conducting research into the new emissions based UK Vehicle Excise Duty system and 4x4 vehicles. I am therefore looking for 4x4 users who could spare a few minutes to complete a short questionnaire on their 4x4 usage.

I have set up a Facebook group to explain a little more about my research here:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=294677402961

and the survey itself can be found here:

http://roadtaxsurvey.questionpro.com

The survey will be open until monday and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Thanks

Richard Sparrow

I just filled it out. Not sure how relevant my answers will be though, given that my 4x4 is from 1999, so I only pay £195 for a hugely polluting 3 litre V6, and would look to replace it if or when necessary with something of a similar vintage.

Sorry Normal Bloke I am merely a poor student and can't afford to pay people... sorry

Kermit Power, all responses are welcome regardless of the age of the vehicle, thanks for taking the time to complete

Enjoyed filling it out. I purchased a Deffender for the farm in Jan 06 and got shafted by the tax, retrospectively. It replaces the old landie that cost nothing to tax and was far more polluting and costs over twice the amount in RFL as my Aston.
You appear to have little understanding of rural life, just like this f.....g chancellor who thinks all 4X4 are chelsee tractors and so0 screws the people that realy need them.

Keep it stiff

Did you questionaire mate but you may have missed the point here, I am one of many who drive a utility vehicle for the versatility it provides, the fact that it is a 4x4 a 4x2 or any other axle combination is frankly irrelevant, its just a really handy vehicle. Sorry, I have no idea of the CO2 or the VED and really don't care, I pay the demand I'm sent and that's it. Good luck with your survey, maybe you could share the results. Cheers.

have completed the survey. Good luck with your studies.

If you have any influence on road tax stratgey, can you try to get the gov't to grow some balls and increase tax on fuel and reduce all road tax to £10/annum. This way the polluting motorists who produce more wear and tear on both the roads and the environment (ie those driving the longest distances) will pay more tax than suckers like me who pay over £400/yr to tax a Porsche that only does about 4000 miles per annum.

...peasants like me then...

I own 3 cars and pay more in RFL each year than most families will spend on petrol. RFL has become a tax on owning a vehicle and doesn't take mileage into account in any way. This doesn't make sense, as the RFL was established to pay for the building and maintenance of the highways.

just done it, although my disco2 is a commercial so LGV tax of 180 quid <LOL>

not sure what all the journy 1,2,3 bit was about...

might be interesting if you did some dust to dust pollution calculations comparing my Disco 2 bought new in 07, to someone buying a new prious every 3 years... including all the environmental cost of the development, manufacturing, co2 produced by the car, manufacturing and disposing of the nasty batteries.. etc etc..
