Just a thought, would anyone be interested in commissioning a PH forum special piece? We could design the piece, spec the movement etc.

Seen other forums do it quite successfully, and those pieces seem to be sought after after the initial run.

Have any examples? I can't imagine many takers if it is a hideous thing with a PH smiley stuck to the front.

I wouldn't envisage the PH smiley being on the front, maybe engraved on the back - or just 'Pistonheads Limited Edition' engraved.

Someone did suggest this before, but I don't think it's something we'd want to pursue.

I just wouldn't want to wear the PH logo on a watch, and I think we're all too into the watches for what they are to be satisfied with something a bit more mundane for the sake of a PH logo.

Whilst in principle it is a nice idea, it is a very complicated thing to organise and manage with lots of people needed to make it financially viable, each with their own ideas of what they would like in the watch etc etc.

I am in the process along with a lot of people of designing a limited edition Steinhart watch over on WatchUSeek and we are approx half way through the process.

As per CmndrBond, it's a long painful gestation.

You forgot the Sinn, Stowa MO and Speedmaster Pro. Apart from that, I think you've captured how it would look perfectly wink

You can get them done here:

...for about $70 US each.

(I would get Haymarket approval if I where you first as they are the trademark holder)

I would buy one of those if they were decent enough watches just for the novelty and to wear on holiday this year.

I bet that the bloke who customises monsters would be able to knock a batch up... Can't remember his name but there's a link in the "Watch for £50" thread.

With Seiko 5 mini-monsters going for about £60, plus a custom dial and hands, I don't think more than £120 would be too bad to shell for one. It would have to be strictly limited edition, not over the top with the smiley etc (thinking something like a Bell & Ross style logo - grey on black), with the smiley engraved on the back and a xxx/xxx numbering.

Chaps,

Sorry, but it really isn't something that I'd feel able to permit putting the PH logo onto.

Cheers

Fairy muff - I guess it would be like putting Seiko on a limited run Ferrari or something...

PH + Watches is a very tenuous link, I will admit...

Could you let us know what puts you off the idea? Looks more classy that a T-shirt, at first glance?

I think we'd struggle to reach a good compromise, and I think we'd end up with a lot of whatever we settled on left in the shop. Here on PH we like to talk about cars, but we wouldn't dream of producing our own. The same is true of watches.

I think that would be quite funny, even if it was only Garlick who bought one wink

The PH shop would seem to suggest otherwise! wink

I think the point he is making is that you will happily sell t-shirts, cufflinks, and so on. How would a watch be 'out of the norm'?
