PORSCHE DESIGN VINTAGE CHRONOGRAPH WATCH.

just bought this on E-bay in what seems to be excellent condition for £600.
does this seem to be a good price?,and also as i live near glasgow could anyone recommend a service centre,or will any reputable upmarket jeweller be sufficient..
if the photograph isn't showing apologies.Getting used to using a Macbook Pro.
It's the same model Doyle wore in the professionals.
thanks for any input.

Sorry, that sounded perfunctory. Doyle may have worn it but they were actual issue (NATO SN 6645-12-182-1763 for Orfina PD), so some genuine association, I'd say you paid a good price if it's not too shabby and as for getting it serviced I'd say it'd be worth your while getting someone who may not be local but will have experience with the movement, firstly because it's discontinued and secondly because it's relatively uncommon. The movement was used in old Heuers, Omegas, Sinns, Tutimas amongst others so anyone with experience in the older models of these should be au fait with the 5100 enough to deal with yours.
Nice choice & one to hang on to for the future. (A few guys on here have them in various guise and may be able to help more than I can!)

Riki,

Mid 2009 I had my 12 year old Omega Seamaster serviced here:

www.swisstimeservices.co.uk

The point is that the engineer I met spotted my Porsche Design PO11 that I was wearing (not a vintage watch of course) and told me they could service it for about £90 all in. This was a lot less than the cost of servicing my Omega.

I actually took my watch to their premises. If you do this their turn round time is a matter of days, whereas if you post it, it takes about three weeks. This is a lot quicker, and probably cheaper, than arranging things via a high street retailer.

Maybe you could call the firm, tell them about your watch and what you want done, and they will quote a price for you.

Hope this helps. At least it is probably a starting point.

R.

Oops, disregard my last if it's the Eterna PD which I believe is 7750 driven, much easier to get serviced in which case.

forgot to mention it's the Valjoux 7750 movement and it's in extremely good condition with only very light normal usage.http://redirectingat.com/?id=1044X509854&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.swisstimeservices.co.uk%2F. many thanks for this site.

Yes I saw this on ebay, but I'm pretty sure it should not have a 7750 movement, so I didn't bid.

There was something that just didn't seem right about it to me. However, I hope you enjoy the watch.

These guys are in Glasgow and although I have never used them (yet)I have seen them recommended on a couple of sites. Might be handy if you want to talk to someone face to face in Glasgow http://www.martinsjewellers.co.uk/Watch-Repairs.ph...

ISTR its a modern re-edition of the classic Orfina made PD chrono. I guess not having the Lemania 5100 movement was a matter of necessity as the movement is not made any more and only tiny numbers seem to be available every now and then. I am sure I read somewhere that most of the stock was bought up by Tutima so they could continue to support their bundeswehr watches.
