Rather than fix the front number plate to the grill, can I fix it elsewhere with a bracket? Legally I must use the number plate (rather than a sticker with the reg on it) and wondered if I could fix it to the body work above the grill (under the bonnet, but not to the bonnet).

It's an early Chimaera, so the grill is one piece.

Good option - I take it you mean to the body under the grill? Guess I would need a bar or something?

still screw through the grill into the fibreglass struts but really low down if you need to space the gap behind a couple of 15mm plumbing straight couplings work well

Bottom of grill is best for an undersize plate.

I had this on for over 2 years with no problems.

I now chance my luck with this, no problem so far and Surrey has more then it's fair share of "The Peelers"!

Nice - Will work on putting the plate on the lower part of the grill - alas, it's illegal in South Australia to use stickers. It has to be the state created number plate (pressed steel).

HCM, did you screw the number plate screws straight into the grill? Or use nuts and bolts?

What's that?! Surely you don't mean those little stickies that come from the stationers or is this something more specific?!

No, much stronger, proper numberplate ones from Halfrauds or similar.

Nice wheels Mike, what are they?
Had a stick on plate for years on my Lotus Cortina with no problem, has the law been changed.

Stick ons are not legal apparently!

Wheels are ATP Multispokes, sadly gone bust.

Other wheels on profile, which I prefer, are Image.

I will be selling the ATP to fund another set of Image when work isn't so cr*p!

Thanks Mike, when you are ready I could be interested, no hurry as it was only when I saw your wheels the idea occurred to me. Cheers

Just fitted this to mine, its a 3/4 size plate, so unlikely to attract the fuzz.

Good position.

You could trim down the white surround, I believe the numbers are what count and there isn't a minimum for the background.

I await correction on this!

PS, I think my plate is less then 1/2 size but unbelievably blown up by the congestion charge cameras like it was 2ft wide furious

Thanks everyone for the replies. In the end I made a mounting bracket out of shelf bracket and some rubber washing machine grommets as a temporary solution. Going to get a powder coated black bar and proper fittings for a more professional look.

Had noticed during fitting that the original plate was screwed to the two diagonal plate mounts behind the grill (both screw holes were different sizes!).
