For some reason I have an urge to listen to country style music, so far I have gone through the usuals I listen to anyways like the Eagles and Skynyrd, but I find myself drawn towards people like Jerry Reed, well I think Smokey and the Bandit did that to me many years ago, but now onto Kenny Rogers, Waylon Jennings.
Anyone got any recommendations?
And for those wondering, I have no idea where this came from and thank god I don't have a sister.

if you don't like cash, much of what I deem good country music won't be yo your tastes either. sounds like you're into 70s/80s stuff rather than earlier folk/spirituals influenced stuff or the 'i just shot my buddy for looking the wrong way at my favourite steer' songs.
try the byrds' 'sweetheart of the rodeo'

I hate country with a passion, Oh the years I was tortured in the back of my parents car listening to Glen fking Campbell, Johnny tw@tface Cash, Kenny Cun ting Rogers, and Hank thew@nk Williams.
and my parents wonder why I grew up listening to Prog Rock and getting stoned outa my face to block out the dirge and depression of a fking cowboy singing to his hoss about how some slag of a saloon gal broke his bleeding heart.
I do like Big and Rich though

That's a Chameleons cover. The Chameleons version is a billion times better (albeit without the banjo).http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQqLDKsnqwA&fea...

Anyway, I think a lot of posts on this thread are referring to what I call Country AND Western. Country/Country Rock/Country Folk is where it's at

Give Ryan Adams and Whiskeytown a try, also check out an aussie band called the audreys and also the beautiful voice of Gillian Welch, her music will change your day.
