Why don't they put a computer joystick? Steering, throttle, brakes, gears (sequential then ), boot, shower, lift, hairdresser, etc

err, how does this work then?

You know sometimes when your ankle aches a bit, so you take your right foot off the gas, and maybe depress the clutch so the engine braking doesn't slow you down???

Well, I do this sometimes on a long trip. If I had a "1 peddle" solution, would this apply the brakes?

What a STUPID idea.

I caught the test they did on Tomorrows World, for all the hype, for the 4 people doing the test (3 minicab drivers and the presenter) there was a big improvement for one cab driver, 2 cab drivers were about the same as a conventional car and the presenter woman was worse with the 1 pedal system.
Hardly conclusive...

Bet most of us would be quicker drivers if the usual controls were replaced with a playstation control pad!

Saw it. Did anyone else notice that the reaction times for the two older drivers (both around 60) made their braking distances greater than the two younger drivers with 1 pedal or 2?

Another good reason for compulsory testing - if you can't stop a car within the codes "braking distances" your outta here!

Reactions slow as you get older - fact.

Which is still popular with good BMX riders!

Kind of serious point to all this though. The conventional car control system has evolved over time and works pretty well.

But, if you started from scratch and designed a control layout for a car - no preconceptions allowed, would you come up with something radically different or better, especially when we now have the technology for drive-by-wire type systems where the processing between control input and actuator output can be considerable.
