Just been sent these videos of my Tamora wearing the new JP Exhausts full system (from ACT). Must say I'm well impressed - deeper and beefier without any ASBO-attracting noise.

The first one is with the cats in place (on a cold morning. At least, I hope so...) and the second is with decats.

I've also been sent these db figures:

With cats
Idle 85db
4500rpm 96db
5000rpm 95db
6000rpm 100db

Without cats
Idle 90db
4500rpm 99db
5000rpm 99db
6000rpm 105db

(Apparently the popping was spiking the readings, so should be lower.)

Picking it up tomorrow, so looking forward to a proper aural experience.driving

Are these the new design ones which are supposed to be quieter? They sound quieter, but still meaty. However, do they do a version without the popping and banging? I don't want to sound like my car is malfunctioning as I drive down the road.

confused Malfunctioning? My Tamora's always popped a little bit on the overrun. After all these years I'd be worried if it didn't.

You must be getting old! Noise is good.... Especially the overrun which is what scares the pedestrians!

Sounds interesting - any indication of cost? PM me if you don't want to post it on the forum.

I've got a decated T350 with a JP backbox.....I would say that mine sounds way louder than the video of the decat version....maybe thats just wishfull thinking on my part, but my pipes look different also. Do the ones in the video have rolled ends?

Decat pipes are approx £200, and the JP Sports Back Box is approx £380 (that includes VAT and delivery), but both probably gone up since I invested 12 months ago.

The box the OP is referring to I believe is different to their original system. Personally I prefer the original as it's loud on the outside whilst remaining relatively calm in the cabin - Mark you're welcome to a proper listen/spin out at any time!

Hi Tony - hope all is well...

I thought that the system that was referred to in the OP was different to the JP box that you had installed, although I'd like a proper listen to yours anyway!

BB: mine's already decatted and I was interested in other options to make the noise a bit beefier without 'ASBO inducing' noise levels. If this new system is reasonable then it would be an option that I would consider...

Hi Mark, yes the OPs is different to mine though I really don't find mine that asbo inducing - yet!! I'm having dark thoughts about NTELs de-cats and a Power remap, though MOTs are a potential problem here. Flames here we come.....

I'm about next weekend if the sun is out!

BTW - Are you going to Chatsworth this year?

Yes, this is a full system - not just the back box.

http://i769.photobucket.com/albums/xx335/Spoon_Med...

It's designed to be quieter than a stock exhaust coupled up to a JP back box. The tailpipes on this one are actually smaller, so it looks closer to standard.

This is the first full JP system on a Tamora, although another PHer already has one on a T350.

The decats aren't part of the system - they're what I have on the car between MoTs.

I don't yet know the price but I believe it'll be exclusive to ACT so that's the place to phone.

Yes it is me that had the new development full-system fitted to my T350 by JP towards the end of last year.

The new system is to be marketed as a track-day friendly sports exhaust and be a real alternative to having to swap back to a standard exhaust just to meet noise regulations. Tested by JP at 98dba at 4500rpm.

It is a totally different proposition to the Standard JP backbox which some will prefer to have on if they are not bothered about track days as it really is much louder. I had the standard JP beforehand and the difference is immense, but also the difference from the new JP system to the standard backbox is very noticeable which definitely ticks the boxes for me.

Here is a picture of mine on the T350 but as you can see the tailpipes are much larger than standard biglaughbiglaughbiglaugh

As Mr Spoonman has said I believe ACT will be selling these exclusively later in the year and IMHO I really cannot recommend it enough. Do bear in mind that it is a full-system from the cats-back so includes new larger bore centre pipes and an entirely new design of backbox.

I havent tried mine without the cats yet but might be worth a try when there are no track days planned...

stub101, does yours sound anything like this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUhM5yUu3ig

love the sound of this one as it sounds very beefy and not to raspy like the standard exhaust.

Quick update on the exhaust.

I collected the car on Friday for a leisurely drive across the Pennines. JP Exhausts said the sound is nicer with the cats in situ, but they kindly left my decats in place.

God, it's a proper angry bd now - but only when you want it to be. Cruising along at a leisurely pace, I'm convinced the car's quieter than it was with the standard-pipes-and-decats setup. No drone at motorway speeds until you're in properly naughty territory - above 120mph (at Bruntingthorpe, of course...) you know it's there, but I'm guessing that's mostly down to the decats.

At idle there's a deeper burble than before. Under hard acceleration it's fierce - but more the way it crackles than in volume. It's a different tone (bore size and rear silencer design, I believe) but I'd be surprised if it's much louder than stock. It's definitely better and, dare I say it, more TVR-like. I've heard some Speed Sixes with modified exhausts that sound (to my ears) like tractors with open exhausts. With this system it's far from the case.

If there's a downside it's that there's more boom under light acceleration - if you're feeling lazy and not revving the thing properly other drivers might think their TDIs are keeping up with a TVR (let them dream, that's what I say). Again, I'm told this is probably due to the decats.

I haven't had chance to properly thrash it yet, so I don't know if there are any performance gains (which was admittedly my only reason for wanting the system). I believe ACT will be trying one on a rolling road to see what happens.

I'll also try to refit the cats at some point, to see what that's like. Won't leave them in though. Like it too much as it is. smile
