single race in a mates car. The problem is all I have is the love of motorsport. I'll need to get my ARDS plus all the gear. Can anyone give me a rough idea of budget?

If it's too expensive I'll have to pass, moving house this month so cash has never been tighter!

Also the £55 a year for your Licence.
Membership of relevant gov body (ie BARC, BRSCC ECT) £150 on top of your club membership.

Also depending on you age (over 45 I think) you may need an ECG scan as well which is expensive.

So around £1,500.00 to £2,0000 I reckon.

Not ideal but if your only doing the one race can you not borrow your mates gear?

Yes you'll still have the cost of getting your licence but you'll have saved a packet...

Like i say, not ideal but everything can be washed.

I thought that was for anyone at any licence level. Hope you are right though because that will save be a bit of money in a couple of years time smile

Stress ECG required for anyone over 45 for any race licence

New this year - rest ECG required for anyone over 40 for an International C licence

That's very true. It was a kind offer but the reality is I'll have to wait a few years until I can afford all of the above. Hopefully I'll be racing before I'm 40(5 years).

I do beg your pardon. I got it wrong. A stress ECG is required for all international licence applicants over 45, annually. A new requirement this year is a rest ECG is required once every 2 years for international licence applicants under 45.

Otherwise a medical for your first licence then an annual self declaration, until you reach 45, then it's an annual medical.

Honest mistake, and thanks for not jumping down my throat!

..... not a problem, & yes that's right unfortunately, .... a medical every year! If you know anyone who requires a full package for their ARDS licence, I can provide everything, "go Racing Pack", medical on the day, passport photos, & the practical & written test, for £359 all in, the draw back being, it would be at Teesside Autodrome, Middlesbrough. The main advantage is that I can carry out the tests at short notice, or at a time to suit the the applicant.

Thanks for the reply, and we all make mistakes, ..... we wouldn't be human if we didn't!! Regards, Howard

Bill,

The guy I'm racing with this year has just completed his ARDS at Teeside and said it was excellent! We tested our Taz there the back end of last year, and it's a very tight circuit with not much run-off, so we didn't really push near full pace just incase.

Hope that helps.

Not intending to cause an arguement with any of the other posters because you certainly CAN spend that much, but it depends how badly you want to do it... The alternative is:

ARDS Test for National B licence £250
GP's medical ~£30
MSA Starter Pack £55
Membership of relevant affiliated Club (depends - some will allow you to do 1 race without joining the club)
Entrance fee to individual race ~£150
License £55

FIA/MSA approved:
Helmet £Borrow
Suit £Borrow
Boots £Wear trainers
Gauntlets £not required
Balaclava £not required

If you read the MSA blue book you'll find that Helmet and fireproofs are mandatory but everything else isn't. I race in a pair of trainers which are just as good as driving boots. If you just want to have a go at it and can't borrow helmet/fireproofs scrounge around and find some second hand stuff. I managed to get a good helmet and fireproofs for less than £150, clean and in excellent condition.

If you can manage to borrow some stuff or buy second hand I'd say you can get it all done for £700-800.00
