before christmas, we placed an order for a brand new mercedes c220cdi sport blue efficiency estate.

the arrived and we took delivery on 1st march (10-plate). the car has now covered about 350 miles and is now sat in a mercedes dealer 200 miles away from home after the engine management light came on... apparently, it is something to do with the injectors.

i have done a quick search on the net and it now appears that there is a known design fault with the engine design with results in injector failures.

if this is the case, do you think it would be worth rejecting the car and buying something else? i really cannot face the prospect of having a car which has a fundamental design issue, nor do i appreciate a manufacturer (or dealer for that matter) selling me a car with a known fault.

your comments would be most gratefully received.

The injector issue has been rectified. Just takes a bit of time to get the parts in. It is an injector component fault nothing to do with engine design?

If this is the fault with yours they will put x4 shiney new injectors in yours even though probably only one was faulty, these new injectors are a modified design and wont let you down again.

Dont jump so soon. Keep the car i think the new C class is quality and the new 220 and 250 delphi diesel engines are better than that of old and pull really well. You obviously have good taste to spec the sport pack, its the one i would have!

My father in law purchased a new Blue Efficiency E250 just before Christmas. He got 3000 miles onto it before the injectors failed, its now been waiting parts for a month.

He's working on the dealer to replace the car with another at the next plate change. Reason being they knowingly sold him a car with a known fault. Initially they offered a free service, now it could be a replacement model. He's still pushing them.

The guy that delivered a courtesy car for him said the dealers yards were full of the cars. Seems Mercedes knew they had a problem before launch but decided to sell them regardless.

There's a huge thread about it here: http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/engine/77050-blue-e...

One or two posters (towards the end) say they have rejected their cars but I'm not sure any have come to a conclusion.

How is your father-in-law doing regarding the replacement car?
