Help please.

I need ideas for brunch dishes which are quick and easy to knock up for someone who isn't exactly a 'morning person', or which could conceivably be prepared in advance.

The only problem is that these can't contain runny eggs or slimy sauces - I don't like them. Kedgeree isn't an option either since brunch guest (a very fussy girl) won't eat anything 'curried'.

All I can think of is smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, which seems like a cop out.

Any ideas? I'm scratching my head here.

If you're feeling like having a late start then prepare pancakes beforehand.

Eggs Benedict, surely? You can make a cheats sauce with creme fraiche and dijon that fits well.

Or muffins, possibly even made the night before and warmed up? http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/9309/breakfast-...

We normally go to brunch at one of the restaurants...They all without fail do a buffet type selection of loads of different hot/cold foods - obviously this will be too much to do at home but one of the stations that is *always* busy is the Smorgasbord. So I'd go with something like this for brunch as its quick and easy to setup and requires minimal prep..

Smoked Salmon
Shelled Prawns
Smoked fish
Various Cut meats
4 or 5 different Cheeses
Fresh Crusty Bread
Crackers
Chutney/Seafood Sauce
Fruit
and maybe a very simple salad.

Well, whoever invented 'brunch' should be fking shot, that's all I can say. It's neither fish nor fowl, hence the confusion over what to eat.

'Breakfast', for me, is a cup of coffee and some pineapple. In earlier years, coffee and a red top Marlie. 'Lunch' is either skipped or a slab of bloody meat, with frites.

'Brunch', I really can't get my head around: runny eggs with slimy sauces, or poncy pancakes. A ghastly American invention.

Worst of all, this girl has invited herself, quite insensible to the fact that I really don't 'do' mornings, never mind on Sunday.

I am not amused. irked

I used to go for Brunch at a mates house every week (long standing invite for babysitting) and she just used to do a late fryup but include side dishes of eggy bread / scrambled eggs / muffins & Danishes (ASDA bought) / toast with copius big mugs of tea/coffee and just take our time over it whilst talking and reading the papers.

Best Sunday's ever...

Pastries, lots of them. Buy them Saturday and warm them in the oven for 5 minutes before she gets there. A Big pot of coffee and some OJ. Sorted.

Was going to suggest breakfast pizza :P Tomatoes, bacon, sausage and mushrooms. yum

Make the dough in advance, pizza takes 10 mins to cook, could even break an egg on top.

Like me. Coffee and toast works fine; I'm much more interested in an all-day breakfast at lunchtime!
