I ordered a watch at the beginning of this month with a delivery time of 5-14 working days.

I sent an email to the company when ordered to see what an expected delivery time would be. They said they would let me know when they knew.

Still nothing by this week, so I sent another one seeing if it would actually be delivered this week, as I go away this weekend. If not can I cancel the order.

I have had a few "off" emails from the company saying how their delivery is 5-14 days and I should expect to wait.

However if they couldn't tell me when it would be available today, how could they say a 14 day delivery?

I have cancelled the order now, mainly as I was pissed off with them not telling me when it would be delivered. I am guessing they would be wanting to order a few watches before getting a delivery or something like that.

Have I been a bit hasty? I guess I didn't like not being informed of the situation. I was unaware of the company before and haven't heard it mentioned before so I think I will stick to those recommended. As Jura have been excellent with me and currently about to deal with Chronomaster.

I'm pretty sure I know who you are referring to and I've just bought a Hamilton from them with no problems at all. I'm just adding that for a balance of opinion, but if you're not sure then its always best to back out while you can I say.

I have heard a few less then gleaming reports in the past about that retailer though (after my order went in).

Just a bit disappointed really.

I just got an email from Neil at Chronomaster at this time of night, only a few hours after my email.

The silly thing is I would have waited a few weeks for the watch if they had just told me what was going on.

Don't think you're being hasty. It is your money at the end of the day that you worked hard for so if they can't be straight with you then sod them. I would do the exact same thing and take my money elsewhere.

Since I really started looking at watches and taking a real interest last year I've found the whole 'scene' to be very civilised and friendly with a lot of people willing to help and offer good advice. Against this background someone acting like they're just Tesco selling loaves of bread is far more noticeable and, rightly so, less acceptable. Its just about knowing your market I suppose.

I don't see anything wrong with what you've done. The number one with customer service is to set and meet the customer's expectations. Just being fobbed off and then not having them make good on their stated delivery date would have me taking my business elsewhere for sure.

I completely agree,

Ultimately the only thing other than the watch you are buying (which will be the same from any dealer)which makes a difference is the service you receive.

The comment about the watch buying and selling community being very civilised is correct and I would not accept anything other than good service and strong communication from any dealer, especially considering that the luxury goods market is not particularly strong at the moment.
