Morning all.

Thinking of going to Sri Lanka in October for my honeymoon, but the web's a little vague about whether it's monsoon season or not.

Would love anyone's first hand knowledge of the weather if they've been there around the beginning of October. Any recommendations of places to stay would be great too. So far thinking of The Fortress.

Cheers in advance.

The Fortress is a great choice, thats where i got married last year and would love to go back!! Upgrade to an Ocean View room minimum tho, you don't want to get stuck on the side of the hotel near the main road..

Can't help with the weather as we went in Feb..

Pop over to Trip advisor for more info..

Weather was lovely end of November (two years ago) when we went there for one of our wedding ceremonies and a few days after.

October probably won't be too different.

Probably both. Beach then the Tea Trails or something, sticking around the SW of the island. But would love some suggestions/ideas if anything springs to mind?

I'll check with the other half and post back if I hear anything good. I'm sure there will be other along shortly with better ideas.

I always thought it was monsoon season in October, but I may be wrong, we got married in October and put off the honeymoon til Feb as we had read that rainfall was at it's highest. Feb was great, as was the wait, knowing we still had a lovely holiday to look forward to at the drabbest time of the year smile
We stayed in Beruwela, trek from the airport was long enough to there- but fascinating to see, so I could not sleep hehe
Not sure I can recommend anywhere to visit as it was all a long way away from Galle- the elephant place and Kandy were great, it was a 3 hour journey from Beruwela.
I also heard about the national park further down south was worth a visit- probably more in reach for you- next time we go it will be on the list to do.

Blank brain cannot remember any of the names of the places, sorry frown

Be careful of going in October, we went at the start of November in 2008 and we just missed the end of Monsoon season by a week. Saying that though straight after the Monsoon is apparently the best time to go as the humidity is so low but the heat is fantastic.

We really enjoyed it when we went and will be going back in a couple of years, I reccomend the Turtle sanctuary and the beach in Bentota. tripadvisor.com is a fantastic website for travel.

Yup, those were the ones smile

We stayed in Beruwela, apparently they've re-done the hotel since we stayed.

Book a guide in advance who will drive you around and organise hotels like that one in Kandi.

Do you actually know the real history behind the events ? Or do you believe the nonsense media spouts ?

Bit of a bump as the wedding gets ever nearer and panic stations are beginning to set in. So if anyone has been to Sri Lanka on October, was it monsoon season and macs or balmy cocktails on the veranda weather?

Have you been yet?

We're looking at Sri Lanka for an August honeymoon next week and the Fortress does look rather impressive if a little expensive!

It is pleasure for you to know that you will find there Winter season now, you can have great fun in Jaffna, Galle, Polonnaruva and Dambulla cave temple. Tourism is the main industry in Sri Lanka. You can have travel insurance by multitrip or you can have backpacker insurance.

Have fun
