E class turbo failure

Initial lack of acceleration, high pitched whistle then clouds of light grey smoke.

I am told it is quite rare and the fit is quite easy (thank God I have a warranty), but 60K seems quite a low mileage to have suffered such a failure.

Is it just one of those things or do other things contribute?
