Hi, took my car for a long drive the other day on the motorway and noticed a high speed vibration.

I have recently had all four wheels refurbished and balanced, so I am guessing that the wheels are ok.
The car has had a four wheel align and thats fine as well.

The vibration starts around 70ish and becomes more noticeable at higher speeds. I believe that if it was
wheels out of balance it would vibrate at around 50-60 mph.
The vibration comes through the seats as well as the steering wheel.

The tyres all appear to be slightly more worn on the inside of tyre, could this cause a vibration which
could be felt at high speed? Or could it be something to do with the drive shaft?
The car has only done 49,000 miles and is on a 51 plate.

I really love this car and would like to sort out this problem, over a long journey its getting a little waring.

Has anyone had this problem or maybe some advice on what to do next.

Thanks. Bill.

Hi

Was it there before the wheel refurb and balance? If not I would suspect poor balancing first or even a thrown weight or two knocking the balance off. Can you go back to where you had the tyres fitted and balanced and ask them to check. Whenever I have had balance issues it is at 70mph.

Also while the wheels are off check each one is round, if bent it will be the inside edge. Check the tyres are round with no lumps.
If when done the vibration is still there, but varies as you accelerate-decelerate
Have the prop shaft checked.

Mark.

THanks for your help guys. The car had a vibration prior to having the wheels refurbished, I will check the wheels though.

The vibration seems to come from the steering and the seats. Under hard acceleration the vibration feels less.
Will let you know if I find out anything.

Cheers.

I had an awful vibration on the CL turned out the engine mounts were well past it. So had them and the exhaust ones all done.

Mine was worse at specific rpms

Front ball joints or wheel bearings would also be worth a check over.
