I don't suppose anyone knows a release date or a date when Tag might announce a release date for the Carrera Calibre 1887? It looks epic with the black dial! I can definitely see it in my collection - I need a chronograph wink

Cheers!

I don't know when it's out but I'm with you; I really, really like this watch.

Hey Ikemi,
You've got me looking at it now (I hate you!), and after speaking to my contact at LVMH it's definitely going on sale here in the UK in June, rrp £2350. Not bad actually, only slightly more expensive than the Carreras.

Starts off with Black or Silver with croc or metal bracelet, with the possibility of a limited edition in 2011!

Really like this watch - do they do the silver face with a steel bracelet though?

Is that the movement that's based on a Seiko?

Yup - but they have done a fair amount to it since then - they bought the IP of the original design and refined it - or that's how I understand it.

Surprised Tag haven't hushed up:

"The Calibre 1887 is a highly advanced column wheel/oscillating pinion integrated chronograph movement platform. It is developed from intellectual property elements acquired from Seiko Instruments Inc (SII), which designed and patented it as TC78 in 1997/99, making it one of the newest constructions in the high-end chronographs world (most existing chronographs date back from the 70s or early 80s)."

I don't think they particularly mind! The intellectual property was acquired from Seiko, but the movement itself has undergone a lot of work in the hands of Tag - An entire workshop was built at a cost of several million for the sole purpose of manufacturing the 1887 movement! It may not be as special as some in-house movements that have been designed from the ground up, but it does make the concept of a watch with an in-house movement a bit more affordable thumbup
