Hi all,

I have been thinking about selling my 2 year old Carrera. Whilst I love this watch, I sat in a meeting this week and 2 other people had the same watch!! Then to add insult, the guy opposite me on the train home had one. Therefore 3 people in the same day..

Anyways, after some equiries, I have been offered £700 max for it, which seems a little low, having paid around £2,400 pounds for it 2 years ago. What would be a fair value for it?

Depends what model of Carrera it is. Tags and Omegas are everwhere and affordable and marketed hard so many people have them. I had one and wish I didn't sell it as it was a rare edition.

Post up a pic.

But to me, a Carrera should have a leather strap.

If the £700 was from a dealer that's probably fairish.
On eBay and the like they seem to fetch £800-£1150 roughly, for a used 2nd hand one.

Of the 14 of us in the team at work last year, 8 of us had Omega Seamasters. Mainly the Brosnan-era Bond model with blue bezel and dial but the odd titanium or polished dial model. There are also a load of us with Rolexes (mainly Subs and GMTs). As has been said above, they are very popular watches in some circles so you are bound to see lots of them plus you notice them more when you have one - same with cars. I generally just think people have made a good choice of watch. If you really want to wear something different there are plenty of lesser-known (less heavily marketed) brands out there. Try Fortis, Anonimo, Glycine, Stowa, Damasko...

I bumped into an old colleague yesterday and he was wearing his Omega. I just thought 'that really is a good-looking watch'

I presume that you bought the Carrera because you liked it... then why should you care if someone else has the same watch? It's a TAG Heuer, there are bound to be a few people around with the same watch as you.

If you like it, keep it... who cares what's on other people's wrists!

I also have an IWC Pilot, which I have never seen on another wrist. Part of the reason I bought the Carrera was because there was not many about, and yes, I liked it.. Not sure why so many haters for people who want to own something different or exclusive, like it's some crime...

Thanks anyway, just really wanted an evaluation.

If you like it, keep it. Or chop it in for a Speedmaster Pro. Yet to see anyone else with one!

I've moved over from a speedy back to a seamaster but went for a Chrono for the same reason as the OP. I want my watch to be individual. There's loads of people at work with a Seamaster but not seen anyone with a Chrono!

Likewise, the others may have been a Carerra but unlikely to be the exact same one!

It's actually a good point. Too many people think they can be different because they think they have more cash than most other people around. Unfortunately, the chances a good percentage of the others will have similar spending power to you is high. If you liked the watch in the first place, what difference does it make if one or one hundred other people have the same one? Surely you bought it for yourself, not others?
