I found this on ls1tech, an ls engine is being stuck into a 911 turbo shell, maintaining awd.

scratchchin Maybe monkfish2 could do this

There was some kind of V8 911 in one of the car mags this month. Must be a trend.

The original Porsche conversion

http://www.toy-jet.com/

As much as its a novel idea....you can hardly call Porsche engines bad. Bit of a mental project really !! I imagine the Porsche's engine being smaller, lighter and with a lower centre of gravity, will allow far better handling than the LS engine will.

I think it will be interesting if he can maintain the awd system.

TBH, if it was my Porsche...I'd be sticking with the Porsche engine !!!

Some crazy yanks are prepared to cut up all sorts of modern cars to do such conversions. Cool...but crazy !

i wonder what it would handle like, because like you said the standard 911 engine would have a lower centre of gravity due to it being a boxer.

Suppose it would be fun in a straight line, rear engine, rear wheel drive, loads of grip and lots of torque from the V8

The conversion section on ls1tech is interesting, i think someone on there has stuck an ls1 into a caterham kit car. Suppose it would fit as its smaller than a rover v8.

Quite a few 200sx's running ls1's.

Theres someone on there with corvette engine and running gear In a honda civic!

I know tinker-27 on here has done a few conversions mainly into bmw's and rx7's

There was a company doing conversion kits for an LS1 into 944/968, engine as supposed to be the same weight so no balance issues, would be an interesting project. Take a look at these:

I've always loved the look of the 928 ever since I was a yoof. I think an LS3 conversion with blower assistance would be awesome. They are about 100kg lighter than the Monaro too.

The mx5 (miata in the usa) conversion is very popular as is the 944 (cheaper to convert than fix the boat anchor 3litre) you can buy off the shelf kits to do it. I do think this project is a bit bonkers but the world would much less intresting without people like this silly
