I have replaced the auxillery battery in the boot of my SL55 beacause the red light in the instruments clusters was showing faulty battery and visit workshop. Both lights are still on after fitting a brand new, fully charged battery.Do these lights need to be switched off by the main dealer or is there another problem

1-Check starter battery under the bonnet.
2-disconnect aux' battery earth terminal for 1 minute.
3-visit Merc.

Hmmmm.... I wonder if this pertains to the starter battery and you are barking up the wrong tree? If the consumer battery is flat (either discharged or worn out) you'd just get the 'consumers offline' message. So starter battery? Unless it is some other strange battery fault.
