Hi Guys, going to Dubai next week for hol with the guys, its 3rd time we are going as we love the place...thought we would do something different this time and we thought of hiring a Hummer and going to Abu Dhabi for the day.

Is it a nice drive?

Is it worth it?

Thanks

It's a crap drive - straight 6 lane freeway with bushes all the way down so you can't see anything - not that there is anything to see...

Last time I went to AD for anything other than business was 6 years ago and it was pretty dull.

You'd be better off driving over to the East and visit Fujairah.

What Asterix said. Dub to AD road is the least exciting drive ever. Especially in a Hummer. Fujairah or Musandam would get my vote if you want to get out of Dubai.

My 0.2 fils worth of advice: DON'T DO IT. I do the fecking trip every god damn day, and its as boring now as I first started doing it nearly 4 years ago.

As said above: hire the Hummer, drive out to Hatta, and take the road to Kalba, then up to Mussandam and then back through Ras Al Khaima (sp) to Dubai. Far, Far better road and somewhat more to see.

It's just really dull - I mean mind numbingly boring.

Also, even though it's always pretty empty, there's always some ahole still trying to get into exhaust pipe.

Believe you me, it ain't empty anymore. Its 4 lanes of solid traffic on the way to AUH in the AM. Its like SZR used to be, only you are doing +160km/h instead of 120-140 and still you have a$$holes trying to see how clean the inside of your tailpipes are!

Fair enough - I make sure my meetings mean I can leave home after 9am if I have meetings down that way.

The drive isn't exciting, but I still think it's worth visiting for the day.

FWIW the guests I've had visit have preferred AUH to DXB (when spending equal time in both).
