The birds they mock me

Nice pics of the Magpie which had me running for cover. We flew out to Perth a few years ago and whilst walking towards a play area my lad (who was less than 2 years old at the time) was attacked by a very angry Magpie which flew over and pecked his head several times which scared the living daylights out of him and us. Apparently Magpies become quite aggressive in the breeding season and each year several children have their eyes pecked out. I caught the whole incident on my video camera - it was unbelievable! - screenshots enclosed of the encounter!!!Yellabelly said:
Rich, I can fully appreciate that predicament, he was really angry as his nest had been attacked by a couple of Rooks, which he chased off then turned and headed straight for me and passed me with inches to spare. Glad I had the camera and the 300 in front of it for protection!
Haha, I guess you ducked for cover when you saw that Magpie flying straight for you. Must admit I had no idea they were so aggressive, though I can't blame them if they think their nest and young ones are in danger.I gather you are using a 300 zoom lens and assume from the file name you are using a Sony camera, might I ask which camera you are using and are happy enough with the results?
Slightly off-topic, and I failed to take any photos, but whilst sitting down watching my lad play in the sandpit in Perth, I trod on a few ants that were becoming somewhat annoying, but unlike the ones here in the UK, the other ants nearby didn't run away, instead they amassed in greater numbers and started advancing towards me which was damn scary. In the end we upped sticks and ran, all whilst being stared at by that damn Magpie with an attitude problem. Have never been to a country before where the wildlife actually felt like it wanted to kill you.

I'm using a Nikon D600 having upgraded from a D200 and I love the camera, I've had the shutter mechanism changed under warranty and no longer have any oil spot problems. It has just the right feel in the hand for me and the controls are very intuitive.
Mucking about with junior's 600D yesterday - what a difference the crop factor makes! Getting an effective 640mm rather than just 400mm (I normally shoot FF on a 6D) made this possible for instance, wouldn't have got anything worthwhile otherwise (it's big crop as it is, wouldn't have got away with much more).

These little chaps keep coming to the garden, so as I have not used the camera much recently and the weather is crap , set the camera up in the kitchen to have a play.
