The tts in local council have allowed the EDL to have a rally in the town centre.

Not only that, but they have decided its a great idea to allow the asian community to stage a counter rally in the same place at the same time.

This will pretty much be war I would expect.

75 percent of local business' are shutting for the day, the council is removing all non fixed street furniture and the trains and buses will be limited.

The expected police cost is estimated at around £300k.

Madness.

So, how many watch lists do we reckon I'm on having just had to Google EDL and find out what it is? smile

I only read the standfirst, but I'm guessing their definition of 'anti-jihad' is racist thuggery. Definitely worth avoiding and I'm quite ashamed to hear we have organisations like that active in the area.

We'll just have to see what happens.

Worst comes to worst I'll be at home with the Beretta, ammo, fire extinguishers, and plenty of food and beer!

All in all I'm not going to be leaving town at the behest of an organised fight in the town centre.

Is that not an admition by the council that this is a very bad idea?

hehe

I'm off to Aylesbury for a gig tonight, so I'll see if the sandbags are already in place.

It's a difficult one. I guess democracy means we can't prevent any group - however repellent - from gathering. Then equality (quite rightly in principal) means we can't stop any other group from doing the same once you've set that precedent. I've got no idea who the people behind the Asian rally are, and it might be naive to suggest they'll just be open minded people peacefully campaigning for racial tolerance, but if it is they should obviously be allowed to do it.

If, on the other hand, it's basically just an organised fight between two groups of opposing extremists then perhaps it's no bad thing. We can only hope it ends very badly for both sides. It's just a shame they can't find somewhere more appropriate to do it. Like Afghanistan.

It's actually my girlfriend, she's supporting a friend at the open mic night type thing in Mendoza's. Music wise it's, erm, dunno really soft-pop singer songwriter type stuff.

If you do stop by look out for a youngish scruffy bloke with short brown hair, stubble and glasses! I'll probably be loitering with a camera trying to work out how the flash settings work.

Ah it isn't that bad. However I did live in High Wycombe for two years before I moved there.

Been here just over ten years and this is the most trouble I've heard of. Just hope that £300 K policing cost is not going onto next years council tax.
